Introduction

For the 8th year (and 12th season), H.I.S. Flag Football (also known as Flag Football of Rochester and formerly known as Flag Football of Macedon) is offering an activity for high schoolers (boys and girls at least 14 years old) and adults. Flag Football of Rochester is an inexpensive (as little as $25/player) instructional and a competitive league for novice and experienced male and female players playing a 5-person non-contact version of football scheduled once-per-week (for the busy family). Click here for a general introduction to the Flag Football of Rochester program. The Flag Football of Rochester Introductory Letter contains more program information; please download and read it carefully.

Description

Flag Football of Rochester is an instructional and a competitive league for novice and experienced players. Flag football is a sport that combines the excitement of football without the associated trauma of contact.

Registration Fee

Generally, the registration fee includes a Participation Fee of $25 per participant plus a League Fee (per family); other fees may apply. Discounts are also available; most significantly, one service opportunity (statistician - a job that can be accomplished onsite during meetings) is available that will cause the League Fee to be waived and significantly enhance the kids' experience!

Queue

Registration is limited due to field availability; only 16 players can register for the spring league and only only 16 players can register for the fall league! Therefore, register today before the registration is closed! The roster will be queued in the order that the registrations are received and processed by the registrar of Flag Football of Rochester; participants earliest in the queue are given priority for roster placement. Registration does not guarantee participation; refunds will be issued for any participant not placed on the roster. The registration form and full payment must be received by the registrar of Flag Football of Rochester in order for the corresponding participants to be queued on the roster. Register as early as possible (don't wait until the deadline) to maximize the likelihood of roster placement.

Commitment

Though participation in every game may not be possible (the playoff and championship game are scheduled in late-June), Flag Football of Rochester is a team-activity; therefore, participants are expected to prioritize the league in order to attend as many meetings as possible (ideally at least 75% of the games). Participants are expected to inform their supervisors (if employed) of their unavailability for evening shifts for the 11-weeks of the season. In addition, guardians are expected to respond to a prompt from their child(ren)'s coach or the commissioner each week requesting the attendance status of each participating child.

Attendance Poll

A parent/guardian is required to complete a weekly attendance poll via a bookmarked entry (after an initial entry) by the deadline. Refer to detailed instructions in the "Attendance" nugget on this webpage (below).

This 9 and 1/3 minute video

  1. illustrates the proper methodology to create and bookmark multiple entries (for a family),

  2. illustrates the proper methodology to retrieve entries to update,

  3. illustrates the improper methodology to "update" a response (which is really just creating a new response), and

  4. illustrates the impact upon the data table of proper and improper entries to a Google form.

Rules

The Official Rule Book is very detailed and not required reading. However, referees, coaches, and players must carefully review the House Rules; the House Rules (version 1) supersede the official rule book.

Results

Spring of 2024 Results: Game #11 of Week #13 (7/8) statistics and the Carney Power Rankings (Cumulative and Average per Game) cumulative only through the season ending with Game #11 (6/24) are posted here! The game results are included as text; however, a hyperlinked Microsoft Word file is included for a more readable format. The Carney Power Rankings are only available as downloadable Microsoft Word files.

Statisticians should

  • review this 24-minute tutorial video that exhaustively demonstrates use of the scoresheet in almost every game-scenario and

  • read the directions on the first page and study the example on subsequent pages of this Sample Scoresheet.

Attendance

During the season, a parent/guardian is required to complete a weekly attendance poll via a bookmarked entry (after an initial entry) by the deadline. The initial entry for each family-participant must be bookmarked; the entry for each family-participant must be updated using the bookmark each week. This screenshot illustrates and this 75-second video demonstrates the simple process required to bookmark a Google form entry; the attendance poll is a Google form.

Update the Attendance Poll by 6:00P.M. on Saturday regarding the subsequent Monday game. Changes to the Attendance Poll can be made prior to 2:30P.M. on game day; changes afterward must be accompanied by a text message to the Commissioner of Flag Football of Rochester. Attendance to the Flag Football of Rochester League should be a priority since players have registered to a team-sport. Review the Attendance Policy webpage to understand the attendance expectations.
